Version 4.0.5 (released September 24th, 2009)
New Additions
- Windows 7 support: Rhapsody 4.0.5 will run on Windows 7 (32-bit and 64-bit). Some features of Windows 7 (such as Aero Shake) are not supported.
- Device Dashboard: When a portable music player or other device is attached and recognized by Rhapsody, a "device dashboard" page is displayed when selecting the device in the Sources pane. This dashboard will display high level details about the device's capabilities, the user's subscription level, and media on the device, including a sample device image for some devices. Most importantly, the dashboard will display diagnostic errors, such as a deauthorized device or computer, corrupt or missing , -capable device in connection mode, or problems with a device such as failure to synch licenses. Where possible, the dashboard will enable outright fixes for some issues or will advise about solutions for others.
- Upgradeable Device Dashboard: Updated versions of the device dashboard will be downloaded automatically when they are released, allowing improved support for devices and enhancement of dashboard content between releases of Rhapsody. (At the current time, dashboard files total less than 200K, so the download of an updated dashboard should not cause a prolonged delay for Rhapsody usage.)
- Standard User support: Rhapsody can be installed, run, and upgraded by standard (non-admin) users on Vista and Windows 7. (Standard user is not supported on XP.)
- Delayed : Installation of Windows Media and Helix DRM is no longer required as part of Rhapsody installation, enabling users to install, launch, and use Rhapsody more quickly. If later actions are performed which require such DRM -- such as downloading or transferring subscription tracks to a device -- Rhapsody may require a restart to install the necessary DRM at that time. For users who do not transfer subscription tracks to portable music players, DRM installation may never be necessary.
Changed behaviors/Bug fixes
- Album Art: and tracks with associated album art will now have the art transferred properly to many devices. (Some devices do not properly support album art for these file formats, however, and will not see a change.)
- Device Authorization: When performed from the device dashboard, device authorization will induce computer authorization at the same time, to improve efficiency for transferring subscription tracks to devices.
- Device Compatibility Report: This now presents correct information for Vista 64-bit (and Windows 7).
- Playback from Mixer: Fixed a "Pure Virtual Function Call" message which would occasionally show when playing a long series of tracks.
- Playback Volume: This is now kept independent of system volume on Vista (and Windows 7).
- UPnP: A recent firmware upgrade for Sonos players would cause Rhapsody to be disabled if Rhapsody and the Sonos player were on the same network. This has been fixed. (Note that the fix only applies to users of Rhapsody 4.0.5. Users of Rhapsody 4.0.4 and earlier must either upgrade to Rhapsody 4.0.5 or will need to remove all upgrades Sonos players from their network to restore UPnP functionality in Rhapsody.)
- Help: Support for new features in Rhapsody 4.0.5 is included.
- Miscellaneous small fixes such as typos and performance improvements were also included.
Removed features
- With Rhapsody 4.0.5 and above, Windows 2000 is no longer supported and will not be able to be installed. Upgrade messaging from older releases may be seen, but attempts to upgrade will not cause the existing installation to be removed.
