Downloading: More Information

Using your General preferences, you can select the folder on your computer where you want your files to be stored.

• If you are running Windows XP, the default folder will be "My Music," found under C:\Documents and Settings\<your Windows account name>\My Documents\.
  
  Some Windows settings will abbreviate the path to C:\My Documents\My Music.
  
  
• If you are running Vista, the default folder will be "Music," found under C:\Users\<your Windows account name>\.

However, you can select any folder you want by clicking the Browse button and choosing a different folder.

Your Rhapsody music will be filed in the folder you select, in a subfolder called Rhapsody.

Location of purchased MP3 tracks:

Your purchased MP3s will appear in the Rhapsody folder, in an artist/album structure.

Click any Artist folder to see albums and tracks by that artist.

Location of downloaded (but not purchased) Rhapsody tracks and purchased .rax tracks:

Your purchased .raxSecure RealAudio format. No longer sold by RealNetworks. tracks and downloaded Rhapsody tracks are located inside the Rhapsody folder, in a sub-folder with your account name. This is usually the email address you use to sign in to Rhapsody.

Note:  Rhapsody no longer sells music in the .rax format. If you have .rax tracks you have purchased from Rhapsody, we suggest you burn them to CD to back them up.

Music inside your account folder is organized in an artist/album structure, just like it is in the Rhapsody folder.

Tracks and albums that you import from CD will appear in your top-level music folder; either My Music, Music, or another folder you select. Imported CD tracks will not appear in the Rhapsody subfolder or your account subfolder.

 

StreamedProcess of breaking a large audio or video file into smaller pieces and transferring it, piece by piece, so it can be viewed immediately rather than waiting for the whole file to be downloaded. Rhapsody tracks and downloaded (but not purchased) Rhapsody tracks are "membership" tracks. You can play them as long as you have the appropriate subscription. If you choose to end your subscription, any streamed and downloaded Rhapsody tracks in your Library will no longer be playable.

Any Rhapsody tracks that you purchased are yours to keep.

 

1. From the Rhapsody File menu, select Add Media to My Library. The "Add Media to My Library" window opens. 
   
   
2. Click Yes. The "Local Media Import" window opens.
   
   
3. Check the boxes to scan for music, photos, and/or videos.
   
   
4. If you don't want Rhapsody to scan the default folders, browse for the folder you want Rhapsody to scan.
   
   
5. Click Import.

The tracks and other media files you've imported will appear in My Library when the Import process is finished.
