Preferences: General

Use these preferences to customize your Rhapsody experience.

General Preferences

Rhapsody Options: Select options related to how Rhapsody functions. Disable 'Start Navigation' sound: (Default: On) This turns off the sound cue produced when you select links in the Rhapsody Music Guide pages and in Internet Explorer. Notify me of Rhapsody optional upgrades: (Default: On) When you sign in, Rhapsody normally checks for updates. Select this option to be informed at startup when optional updates are available. Use DirectSound audio output: (Default: On) Select to enable DirectSound on Windows operating systems. DirectSound is a component of the DirectXA collection of command interpreters created by Microsoft that allows sound and video to work faster in Windows95/98 or later, and Windows NT 4.0 or later. library. This option is recommended. Clicking the Play button...: (Default: Plays track immediately) Allows you to choose what Rhapsody will do when you click in the Music Guide.   Choose Adds track to the Mixer and plays track immediately to play songs as soon as you click in the Music Guide. Choose Adds track to the Mixer without starting playback to just add the track to the Now Playing queue without starting playback.   File Locations: Use the Browse button to select where you will store your Rhapsody downloads and purchased tracks. (See "Where are my downloaded and purchased files located on my computer," below.)   Mini Player Options: Choose whether you wish to use the mini player, and where to place it on your computer screen if you opt to use it. Use the mini player: (Default: Off) When selected, the mini player is active and will appear over any active window(s) when you mouse over the selected corner of your computer screen: Top left (Default) or Top right.

Using your General preferences, you can select the folder on your computer where you want your files to be stored.

• If you are running Windows XP, the default folder will be "My Music," found under C:\Documents and Settings\<your Windows account name>\My Documents\.
  
  Some Windows settings will abbreviate the path to C:\My Documents\My Music.
  
  
• If you are running Vista, the default folder will be "Music," found under C:\Users\<your Windows account name>\.

However, you can select any folder you want by clicking the Browse button and choosing a different folder.

Your Rhapsody music will be filed in the folder you select, in a subfolder called Rhapsody.

Location of purchased MP3 tracks:

Your purchased MP3s will appear in the Rhapsody folder, in an artist/album structure.

Click any Artist folder to see albums and tracks by that artist.

Location of downloaded (but not purchased) Rhapsody tracks and purchased .raxSecure RealAudio format. No longer sold by RealNetworks. tracks:

Your purchased .rax tracks and downloaded Rhapsody tracks are located inside the Rhapsody folder, in a sub-folder with your account name. This is usually the email address you use to sign in to Rhapsody.

Music inside your account folder is organized in an artist/album structure, just like it is in the Rhapsody folder.

Tracks and albums that you import from CD will appear in your top-level music folder; either My Music or another folder you select. Imported CD tracks will not appear in the Rhapsody subfolder or your account subfolder.
