Playlists: Special Playlists

An AutoPlaylist is a playlist created from music in My Library and based on rules that you select. Once created, an AutoPlaylist can be played like an ordinary playlist.

Unlike an ordinary playlist, AutoPlaylists are just collections of rules used to generate a list. Every time you add or remove tracks from My Library, the AutoPlaylist will change (if the tracks match any of the rules in the AutoPlaylist).

1. Select New AutoPlaylist from the Rhapsody File menu.
   
   
2. Select the Tracks in this AutoPlaylist must meet... checkbox.
   
   
3. Use the drop-down menu to choose whether your tracks in your AutoPlaylist will meet All or Any of the rules that you select.
   
   (Selecting All will give you a smaller, more specific playlist. Selecting Any will give you a larger, more varied playlist.)
   
   
4. From the first drop-down list, select a metadataInformation attached to a file, such as track info (genre, artist, album name, year released, etc.), or a track's rating. Rhapsody uses metadata to help you organize your music, and create AutoPlaylists. category. (For example, Artist, GenreTtype or category. For example, rock, classical, country or rap., or Release Year.)
   
   
5. From the second drop-down list, a modifier for the rule, such as  contains, does not contain, is, or is not.
   
   
6. In the field next to the second drop-down list, type the object of that rule. (For example, an artist name, a genre name, or a release year.)
   
   
   
   Some examples of AutoPlaylist rules you might select:
   
    

   Drop-Down 1	Drop-Down 2	Field(s) You Type In	What Does it Mean?
   Artist	is	Johnny Cash	Include artist Johnny Cash in the AutoPlaylist.
   Release Year	is in the range	1965 to 1990	Include only tracks recorded between 1965 and 1990.
   Rating	is greater than	three stars	Include only tracks that I've rated three stars or higher.

With the AutoPlaylist rules above, Rhapsody will automatically create a playlist for you containing tracks recorded by Johnny Cash between the years 1965 and 1990, that you have rated at three stars or higher.

There are a great many possible AutoPlaylist rules combinations. Experiment with them, and have fun! You can always modify your AutoPlaylist later.

7. Click Add Rule if you want to have more than one AutoPlaylist rule. That rule will be added, and a new, blank rule will appear.
   
   
8. When you have created all the rules you want (You can have from 1 to 10 rules per AutoPlaylist), select how you want to order your playlist from the Arrange track order by drop-down list.
   
   
9. Select whether you want your AutoPlaylist to include All track types, streamed Rhapsody tracks only, or imported, downloaded, and purchased tracks only.
   
   
10. Select Limit to if you want to limit the length of your AutoPlaylist.
    
    
11. If you selected Limit to, type a number into the field (Default: 25). You are selecting the number of tracks to include in your playlist, or the number of minutes your playlist will last.
    
    
12. Select tracks or minutes from the drop-down list.
    
    
13. Click OK.
    
    Your AutoPlaylist will appear in the Playlists area. It will be updated whenever you add or delete tracks to My Library that match the AutoPlaylist rules.

To rename your AutoPlaylist:

1. Select the AutoPlaylist name in the Playlists area.
   
   
2. Click the AutoPlaylist name again.
   
   
3. Type in a new name for the playlist.
   
   
4. Press [ENTER] on your keyboard.
   
   An AutoPlaylist cannot be directly edited, but you can change the AutoPlaylist rules at any time by right-clicking the AutoPlaylist name in the Playlists area.

To save your AutoPlaylist as a regular playlist:

1. Select New Playlist from the Rhapsody File menu. A new playlist will be added to the Playlists area.
   
   
2. Drag your AutoPlaylist name to the new playlist name.
   
   
   
   or:

1. Clear the current contents of the Mixer, in the Playlists/Mixer area.
   
   
2. Click the Playlists tab in the Playlists/Mixer area.
   
   
3. Right-click the AutoPlaylist.
   
   
4. Select Add to Mixer from the right-click menu.
   
   
5. Click the Mixer tab.
   
   
6. Click Save at the bottom of the Mixer window.

You cannot directly edit an AutoPlaylist, but you can edit the AutoPlaylist rules to change the content of the AutoPlaylist.

1. Click the Playlists tab in the Playlists/Mixer area to view the Playlists area.
   
   
2. Right-clickClick the right mouse button while using an appllication to display an alternate menu of commands or choices. the AutoPlaylist name  in the Playlists area. (AutoPlaylists all feature the AutoPlaylist icon: )
   
   
3. From the right-click menu, select Edit AutoPlaylist.
   
   
4. Edit your AutoPlaylist rules. You can edit just one rule, all rules, or any combination.
   
   
5. Delete rules if you want to. To delete a rule, click the "x" button to the right of the rule.
   
   
6. Edit any of the other AutoPlaylist conditions if you want, such as the track types you want to include, or the length of the playlist.
   
   
7. When you have finished editing your AutoPlaylist, click OK. The tracks in the AutoPlaylist will change according to the rules you have set.

 

A Dynamic playlist is a playlist that Rhapsody will refresh each time you sign in. It's a great way to find new music.

1. If the Music Guide pages are not already open, click Rhapsody Music Guide in the Sources area.
   
   
2. Click the Playlist Central tab at the top of the Music Guide pages.
   
   
3. Click Go to Dynamic Playlists in the "Dynamic Playlists" box.
   
   
   
   
4. Click the name of a Dynamic Playlist to view its current contents.
   
   
5. Click under the playlist name to play it. Click under the playlist name to add it to your collection in the Playlists area.

• Click next to any individual track to play it.
  
  
• Click next to any individual track to add it to My Library.

If you like the current contents of your Dynamic playlist and want to save them:

1. Clear the current contents of the Mixer.
   
   
2. Drag the Dynamic Playlist name to the Mixer tab. When the Mixer opens, drop the Dynamic Playlist into the Mixer.
   
   
3. Click Save at the bottom of the Mixer to save the Dynamic Playlist as a regular playlist.

Note: You can also drag a Dynamic Playlist from the Playlists area to My Library to add the tracks to your collection.

 

My Dynamic Playlist is a Dynamic Playlist Rhapsody creates just for you, based on your listening history, selected genres, and ratings. Each time you sign in to your Rhapsody account, My Dynamic Playlist will be updated with fresh music.

1. If the Music Guide pages are not already open, click Rhapsody Music Guide in the Sources area.
   
   
2. Click the My Rhapsody tab at the top of the Music Guide pages.
   
   
3. Scroll down to My Dynamic Playlist.

• Click to play your custom Dynamic Playlist.
  
  
• Click to add your custom Dynamic Playlist to your collection in the Playlists area.
  
  
• Click next to an individual track in My Dynamic Playlist to play it.
  
  
• Click next to an individual track in My Dynamic Playlist to add it to My Library.
  
  
• Click to view your entire Dynamic Playlist.
  
  
• Click Refresh Playlist to toss out the current contents of your custom Dynamic Playlist and get new tracks.

To access My Dynamic Playlist from Playlist Central:

1. Click the Playlist Central  tab at the top of the Music Guide pages.
   
   
2. Click Go to Dynamic Playlists in the "Dynamic Playlists" box.
   
   
   
   
3. Under My Dynamic Playlist, click to play it, or to add My Dynamic Playlist to your collection in the Playlists area.
